Finally found some time to shoot photos of my old stomping grounds! I've been gone eight years. Coming back and seeing this place as a photographer is like discovering it for the first time. I'm like a kid in a candy store all that's missing is someone to share this amazing discovery with. This was my first view of the city when I drove back into town. The view is from Mounds Park on the East side of St. Paul, Minnesota. Downtown St. Paul there on the right looks like it is actually built on the old Mississippi river bed because it is surrounded by bluffs on all sides. Aside from the views from the bluffs on the Westside (there in the background on the left)Mounds Park offers some of the most stunning skyline views. We now know that Indians had been bringing their dead to Mounds Park for more than 1,000 years. The burial place is, in fact, part of an ancient graveyard of mounds, built by prehistoric Indians, who once lived in a great village that one time must have stretched over most of the bluff land of modern East St. Paul. The six mounds that one now sees in modern Mounds Park are but a tiny remanent of what was once a great multitude of ancient burial grounds. One can definitely "feel" the presence of these spirits there today. Working on a brand new laptop and not used to the color on this LCD screen would love to know how the pic looks on your screen.
