Description

Three Cheyenne Woman Warriors on guard in the Palo Duro Canyon during the 1874 Red River War, also called the War to save the Buffalo. Okay, actually this is just a repost of "Don't mess with Texas" which I uploaded yesterday. In the meantime it sank in with me what an HDRI image depicting a sunlit scene needs on top of the image-based lighting. Well, obviously some direct sunlight source. No matter how much you crank up the light parameters of the bitmap, something won't be right: HDRI is perfect for indirect or ambient light scenes because it lights the secene from every direction. But in a scene with direct bright sunlight you have to add an additional light source. I added one white point light with the strength at 150 and softness at 2 (softness of light translates into softness of shadows, only in outer space shadows aren't softened). The rest is some focal blur in the foreground, some spraipaint dust, minimal color correction. BTW, a very special thankyou to the immortal Shademaster who brought up the brilliant "Renderupgrade" for good ol' Poser 4. It was the first fake HDRI set I got my hands at - and now I imported his bitmap into Vue 5 Infinite to use it for some real HDRI lighting. The image doesn't show Palo Duro Canyon, btw, it's the Grand Canyon. I really had to get that off my chest ;) Comments and sugestions for improvement very welcome!

I agree about the war paint although I would not mind being tracked down by these women!

Super awesome work. The figures are absolutely stunningly perfect. The DOF is a remarkable touch and i love the postwork of dust around their feet. The woman on the right looks like Cher, the one in front looks like Geena Davis and the one on the far left looks like Sandra Bullock. I guess they are all husband hunting ;)
