Description

Nikon 7900 image. Tis the middle of summer and very few flowers are blooming so I seem to getting a lot of bug pics lately, lol. Not just bugs but Dragonflys in particular. At the start of July I had never managed to get a single focused shot of any Dragonfly after almost 2 years of trying. Since then I have maybe 50 good to better images of them and have captured at least 7 or so different species. Ain't life a hoot. No explaination for this just unmitigated joy, lol. Now I want one on my finger and I want 2 or more in the same shot. Seems I am always looking for something more, lol. This species is seldom longer than about 1 inch while most of the Dragonflys I see are at least 3 inches or more in length. These also seem to possess a lot of personality and be willing to stay in one spot longer than most. I posted a "Smiling Dragonfly " not long ago that definitely was smiling it seemed and was the same type. This little guy has assumed a very unusual stance while perched and seems to be somewhat cheerful as well. I have not been able to identify exactly what species it is though. I will post a number of Dragonfly pics in the next week or so but I will try to intersperse them with some other subjects. I hope the pic was worth the click. Lee

I have never seen a dragon fly up close like that before, I guess I never took the time to look. Very interesting, the position of the dragonfly really adds to the character of the picture. Nice shot!

I love this shot! It almost looks like the little guy (or is it a girl) is smiling!

I love these little guys...and yes they certainly do have a personality (and attitude)of their own. You are lucky to have so many different species....only see about three different types in my neck of the woods. Nice shot!

This is one of the best dragon fly shots I have seen. I have had a theory for a long time that when we are photographing insects in macro, they actually turn their eyes to see what we are doing - this is the clearest illustration of that I have seen to date. Superb image.

Another excellent shot capturing the beauty of dragonflies. From what I remember, the dragonflies will stick their behind up in the air so less direct sunlight hits their body. This keeps their temperature down. Keep'em coming. I never get tired of dragonfly pictures.

Awesome pic. I have never seen an up close pic of the face. They are an odd little insect. Good focus and excellent framework with partial pic behind the frame. You have really hit the jackpot on dragonflies this summer!
