Description

My first image rendered with Lightwave 9.0. Boy is the learning curve steep...makes Vue look like a blunt chisel! Based on a previous image in my Gallery "Risa Study" Just an image to get to grips with Lightwave...I may continue to refine the image.

Totally awesome! I can't imagine how you did that with LW...been working to learn this great package for only a couple of years, but did not think this level of realism was possible, at least not with organics. You give hope to the less talented!

Thankyou all for your comments. Such enthusiastic comments are what give artists in this community drive and focus to continue. CSHARK....I have had LW now for 2 months and have "been at it" everynight coming home from work until about 1am doing tests and surfing tutorials galore and scanning the help documents (I have had no life for 2 months lol). I have had to learn new techniques which I hardly ever had to consider when using Poser or Vue. Weightmaps, displacement maps, SSS, fresnel..etc There is an incredible amount to do in Photoshop before you even get to the surfacing in LW itself. My understanding of how light reacts with a surface and why we see what we see has been an enjoyable "chore". I've scoured articles on the fresnel effect, what diffuse actually means in the real world compared to what it means for CG art etc etc. I'm glad I bought the package! I'm working on an update of this image as I am not happy with the composition which is lame, and neither am I pleased with the glossiness on the top lip, it's not convincing. The upper lip itself looks like sandpaper and the chin under the lower lip is too rough, more photoshopping I think lol. Need to work on a little more subtle sub surface scattering as the skin looks too clinical I think. The skin surface has some JPEG artifacts which I need to eliminate but that comes from the JPEG artifacts in the actual skin texture, and probably the closeness of the subject.....watch this space!!
