Description
These gents came from inside the closed area in the upper ward at the castle; I caught them as they crossed the grounds toward us tourists. They were of course mobbed by young women the instant they passed through the gates into the public area. What is it about a man in uniform? The quiet strength? The discipline and training? Or is because their pants are pressed and their socks match?

NICE PIC AND I'D SAY IT'S ALL OF THE REASONS YOU LISTED

Dare I ask how you know their socks matched ;)? I'd never thought of squaddies' being subjected to ruthless sock inspections before. Very nicely timed photograph. You captured two interesting expressions

just thinking of one more reason (my socks almost never match) ... a large pointy steel object makes it all the more imperative to genuflect, and to say, "I'm on your side, mate!". Less likely to get run thru.
