What's the little door for?

I believe the 'little door' is for little minds to exit this image after making 'little' comment on all the wonderful, detailed and skilled work that went into the creation of a very engrossing picture. Your attention to tiny details alone makes this image great, and I am drawn immediately to the scars of past battles that the gladiator wears like medals of honor - though I suspect up against Vicky - he will receive his final scar. A very nice job ChaosArchangel!

Chaos, it's a good start. Jason is right that there's clearly a great deal of detail work in this. But having said that, it feels... well, for lack of a better word, "jolly". I don't sense the tension or anticipation: are these two combattants or on the same team waiting for their opponents? And Argus does make a good point: the door seems awfully small compared to the people right over it. Perhaps it's intended for something else, like animals? But right now, it's somewhat distracting, particularly with the metallic white piece over it -- your eye goes there almost automatically because it's so bright. And two small notes: your columnade is missing a piece on the right side, right over Vic's head. And you might consider taking down the scaling of the stone brick texture; it's a bit too large compared to the people. If the impression was going for large stone blocks, then the gaps between them should be reduced to just about thin lines. Just my $0.02, okay?

I believe this is a very cool pic! The problem is perspective, I think all the elements are in a perfect position, but the texture on the wall (being so detailed and perfect, mind you) makes the viewer think the wall is closer than it really is. I've had that problem before. Try and enlarge the texture to shrink the brick size without losing any of that great detail and see what happens. I bet the "little door" becomes more normalised in size! Der, I just read what VirtualSite said, same thing I did, but less windy! Hehehe!
