...i saw this little beautiful creatur just now in my garden. Not enough time to make a perfect shot :-)

they are so hard to get close to, not like their bigger cousins the dragonflies. The River Jewelwing is a member of the broad-winged damselfly family (family Calopterygidae). These large damselflies, 1-2" (25-51 mm) long, differ from members of related families in that their wings broaden gradually from the base, rather than appearing stalked. When the insect is at rest, the wings are held together vertically above the slender body, which is usually metallic green or black. The slender, long-legged naiads stalk some prey among plants in shallow streams and occasionally in ponds. Damselfly naiads, unlike dragonfly naiads, have external gills on the tip of the abdomen.
