The flames are volumetric materials, and he made a sphere and stretched it to make it get that effect... right? Thats how I do it.

Going back in time, this is your second posting I find, and truly, you did capture the atmosphere perfectly. I may have a slight preference for the"picture yourself on a boat on a river" because it gives me more your personal interpretation. But this could really come out of the movie.
