It looks like an aluminum boat with simulated lapstrake to imitate wood. How magical seemed that inititative at Grumman in the waning days of the Eisenhower recession after WW-II. Now hauled up on a beach with oarlocks ready I am reminded about simplicity and discipline I learned at Boy Scout camp at Bear Lake. No oars pinned to the oarlocks to avoid loss of an oar with vigor and poor technique. The clumsey ferruled leather sleeves must be run just right and oualah! one can even "feather the oars" to muffle ones progress and ship oars to stand them up coming into a dock! All in a picture. All in an afternoon alone.
