Description

Today, Terry and I walked the lava fields to see if there was any surface lava "(Remember Brave Terry?)" . We were to walk to the "Volcano Skylight" first then determine which way to go to look for surface lava. Plans changed a little as there was to much heat waves on the surface. Terry decided to walk upwards and I was headed towards the Skylight (using gps). We kept in contact with walky-talky. Before I could reach the skylight, the heat was too intense and lava was in the cracks under me. I took a couple of gulps of water from my backpack hydration system and it was too warm. I spit it out the water and when it landed on the rocks, it burst into steam. Like adding water to a hot frying pan, it evaporated in an instant. I decided to backtrack to head for cooler grounds. Lucky the wind kept on blowing as the heat was to intense. Found cooler grounds and started to head uphill towards Terry. Less than 5 minutes I came upon this little area. Sometimes its so hard to tell if you should walk on it or not. There is no smoke to warn you. Look carefully and you can see a little red glow. One mistake and its fried shoes....... I called Terry down and will show more pictures of the lava. Aloha and thank you for viewing.

I see you are throwing out the palu on this series...let me tell ya I'm biting. I see the little red glow there in the center, don't step there! Don't go to areas that you see tourists burning up. Stick to the cool areas...I know in this wasteland of lava that's very hard to find. Glad you guys made it out ok...can't wait for the pic's. Maika'i

This is almost too scary. Fried shoes isn't all you'd get with the wrong step, but since you've been around lava for so long I suppose that you know what you are doing. Too scary for us foreigners. LOL!!! Great photo BTW!!! HUGS!!!

I LOVE your lava shots. I see the red in there, but it isn't easy to spot. Fascinating. Great work. It almost looks alive.
