Description

This building is the original smokehouse used by Caddie Woodlawn's family. My daughter just read the series in school so while we were in Menomenee, Wisconsin we stopped to visit. It is located in a park which is also a historical marker. I hope to have more photos from this trip. Thanks for you visit and comments on this and previous posts. Jodie :0)

Shades of the Civil War! That little structure looks just like something out of the old photos from that era, except it's in color/colour. Nice atmospheric mood and composition, Jodie. Glad you enjoyed the trip.

If it weren't for the manicured lawn it stood on, you'd believe this was taken the year it was built. Nice shot.

I am sure a lot of American history and hardship is recalled in this display. Great presentation Jodie!

Beautiful capture. Isn't it amazing how close -- and yet how far -- in time we are to low-tech systems like this?

LOL@Andreas & go out for a smoke... I'm pretty sure a smokehouse is where the butchered meat was hung to cure. The fire inside the smokehouse would permeate the meat and that shank of pork would become ham! I don't know how the salt was added...before the smoking, I think. Thanks Andreas, now I have to go look it up~!

That majestic pine certainly seems to dwarf the smokehouse; or is that an optical trick of perspective? Cool capture!
