Description

On September 1, 1984 near Pine Ridge, Idaho, five young backpackers witnessed a very spectacular event. Shortly after setting up camp and starting a nicely blazing fire, one of the members of the camping party noticed a strange glowing light coming from the southeast. Weary from the long 15 mile hike at first they thought this must be another set of campers settling in for the night. But from the bright green and blue color of the glow they knew that this could not possibly be a campfire and decided to investigate. Upon reaching the clearing they spotted the craft hovering over the very scorched area where craft had previously been resting. The surrounding trees glowed with a soft fuzzy light like they were being lit from within. They noticed that the only sound that could be heard was a strange humming that they could also feel within their chests. No crickets chirped even as the trees swayed the wind seemed to be mute. Only the vibration that was thick with in the air, an almost electric vibration that made all of them momentarily shudder. None of them could move or speak just stand motionless and stare at this strange wonder they had encountered. Suddenly without any sense of warning the craft rose up quickly shooting out a large blast of air that knocked all of the very startled viewers backward, then it completely vanished from view. The next morning the campers where pulled from their feather down wrapped sleeping bag slumber by a crew of 20 smoke jumpers. The area had to be cleared from encroaching blaze, one of the worst fires in recent years! We never talk much about what we saw, unless we've had a lot to drink. Not much is remembered other then what I mentioned. Not even how we needed up back in our bags. Mostly it is big blank...On some of us it was harder then others, but none will forget it or can wipe it from their minds. So tonight on the 22 anniversary and few drinks I thought I might share it with you as well. Cheers!

The Full size has much more detail. Not that it matters much I must have picked the wrong weekend to post this. And I thought it my best work to date :( Oh well...

Wonderful image. Very mystifying. One can imagine the rumbleof that humm while staring at it. Very nice juxtaposing the idilyc pine trees to the clear image of the galaxy. Makes you stare up and feel very voulnerable. Great work!!!!! Hugz, Connie

Small and full of wonder is how I felt. I digitally painted all of the pine needles I found it very theraputic LOL. Seriously though that was a difficult image to do but I think it came out well. The Ship is just a Bryce Boolean and the Trees are pure Bryce. The Star background is a composite of a few space images of the Milky way. Lots of post work done in Photoshop.

Maginifcent! None of my own encounters have been as close up as this, but all of them have left me with a sense of wonder. Do you think the occupants of the vehicle knew you were there?
