Description

well here it is post 800 and fathers day - I had been working long and hard on an image to go with "danny boy" a song his dad sang to him as a child, he sang to me and i croaked to my Danny boy. But it didn't want to be the pic i wanted it to be This got me thinking about Dad - the type of man he was and what he enjoyed. He lived for his family - kids and grandkids especially, a simple and honourable man who loved lifes simple pleasures and never had a bad word to say about anyone I inherited his bad memory for names lol boys he always called charlie and the girls dux (not sure where he got that one from though lol) His childhood was one of poverty, debt and loss. His family often did the moonlight flit for not being able to pay the rent. Everything had to be left behind. He lied about his age to join the merchant navy to get 3 meals a day. He won a scholarship to an exclusive school but the travel and the other kids put him off so he dropped out all together. On arriving in Australia he walked into his first job - the rattled off a list of things and asked if he could do them - half he had never heard of but he said yes. He stayed with that company until retirement. Leaving as the Manager. This is my first fathers day without him but as sad as it is I can smile as I remember the man and dad he was. Man of few words whose whole letters consisted of 2 lines keep smiling Daddio So Dad this simple portrait is perfect for you Keep smiling Chris :o)

Beautiful story. It will be hard for years to come. I lost my dad when I was only 17. You are very lucky to have had him in your life so long. Beautiful portrait with a beautiful tribute of words.

First, a gorgeous and sweet image. Also Congrats on 800 images.. wow! About your Dad. You say you smile as you remember him and that just what your description of him did for me, made me smile. As Bobby says, he seems to have been someone I would have liked to known. :)

I love the image, and your story brought me to tears and I moved everyone over a seat to place your Dad in my heart along side my own..they are cut from the same cloth and would make famous friends. Probably are.
