Description
This is one of my older shots from 3 yrs ago. It's a close up of a male Eastern box turtle (red eyes) I found crossing the road here in NJ. I used to see them a lot growing up in N.C. Now living in NJ we don't see them very often, maybe once or twice a yr if we are lucky. Of course when we find them they are "speeding" across the road so I just have to stop take them back to the farm for release. My daughter loves them, as turtles go they are gentle, not like the much more aggressive snapping turtle.
The shot was taken using a Nikon Coolpix 4500 camera. Great camera with a nice macro lens setting. They are no longer make by Nikon however you can find them on the large auction web site from time to time.

What a lovely face! He's very handsome for a turtle. I have water turtles and its hard to get them to open up enough on land to get a good photo of anything other than their shells. Good job.

Look at that detail on this face. What a beautiful shot. He may have been to a party with those bloodshot eyes!!!!

What a great shot! I love turtles. When I was a kid in Japan turtles would walk past our house... we would pick them up and pop them in a water tank and wonder why all the fish disappeared! :-)
