this image was inspired by "the reefs of space" by Frederick Pohl and Jack Williamson, a classic sci-f- book from 1963 (the cover price on my copy is 50 cents!)
"we worked out the natural history of the Reef> It was a cluster of living fusorian colonies!...the rate of growth must be terribly slow...perhaps a million years. But the fusorians have time....

The word fusion usually implies frantic chaotic frenzied reproduction of some kind. Thanks for the explanation. This is way to calm and serene to be any of those things. The colors and overall peacefulness are wonderful. Perhaps dreams are produced here. Thanks for sharing. BJ
