Description

Oregon coast in July. Very beautiful, but usually very chilly, so leave the bathing suit at home. This was the same place I shot the tide pool posted earlier. And those two lovely creatures are my sons. I'm pleased with the detail I was able to bring out in the sky -- the original looked all light grey. And I converted to LAB color and steepened the A and B curves to bring out the contrasts in the rocks also. But I'm still not quite as deft as I would like with the graphics tablet. And I miss a lot of details that cause me consternation later due to bad eyesight. There's some visible pen strokes there. I hope my new 24in. monitor ordered this week will help with that respect. It's just too expensive to print out everything, as much as I would like to. After several attempts at producing a satisfactory hard copy, I juiced this one up a lot more using LAB color. At least the print no longer looks like a lightly tinted monochrome image, but I just can't get the hard copy to look like the screen. The closest I've come is using the Epson standard ICM and the relative colorimetric setting. It appears that I'll just have to overdo the colors on the screen to make the hard copy have the desired punch. I wonder how many hours of this it takes to get past ham-fisted, blind and ignorant? After my monitor purchase, followed by investment today in Monaco EZColor, I guess I'll have to add "broke" to that list. But when I adjust my monitor profile using something like Adobe Gamma, everything looks way too dark on the screen, although it more closely matches the Epson CM profiles, which are supposedly pretty accurate. So I can only conclude that all of my images are too dark at this point.

The uneven ground makes it hard to walk on but I'm sure the younger ones make it look so easy. Excellent shot. Aloha
