Description

The French and Indian War reenactors are at Lake George, NY where many of the battles of the French and Indian War took place. Took the SLR up y'day on a whim when I biked up to the lake--didn't know they would be there. Always incredible images to be had of the colonial period when they are here.

Nice composition, not sure if seeing the top of the mast would improve it or not. Seems a bit soft on the beach part with the rope. Correct me if i am wrong but isnt that the Red Ensign - ie british?

Rich(inshaala) Yes that is the British flag. The two sides of the conflict were the french and their Indian allies versus the British, the colonists, and their Indian allies...heard a great deal about it y'day and today. The cropping was to cut out a parasail going behind the bateaux, and to minimize shoreline development so as to minimize the amount of PSP work to render the background as it would have appeared at the time.

I'd say it is a perfect crop and an awesome capture!! Love the lighting on this dark little ship with it's little cannon aimed right at the viewer! Fantastic photo Rufous and I'm kicking myself for missing the event this weekend hehehe.. Excellent!
