Description

Hi Everyone! Today I'd like to share a picture I took at the beginning of this year when a tourist threw a cigarette out his window and it started a catestrophic fire on Table Mountain, Signal Hill and surrounds. This was taken of Lion's Head / Signal Hill... you can compare the huge ball of smoke with the trees on the hill... It was NASTY!... Luckily winter came soon afterwards and it rained a lot and now everything is green again... but you can still see the damage it caused. :( Anyway... thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful night / day! Keep well eST

Nasty indeed, heart breaking to see the land ablaze.. We had huge Moorftop fires here in North Yorkshire U.K in 2003.. Pain beyond belief to see the land you love burning for days and nights. Our fire fighters worked non stop. I am so grateful to them.. Excellent work here. I am sorry you had to take this shot.... Let us hope you will never have to see this sight again. Diane.

Nice image but a very sad story! I used to live in the south of France where there are huge forest fires every summer, most of them criminal and sometimes due to imprudence like that! I know what you mean. Bravo!!! oh, and thanks a lot for adding my image in your favs!

I just love this image... apart from the sad story behind it, it's an impressive and just plain beautiful sight. Very powerful..! I could have known you were a graphic designer... ;o)

Wow, what a beautiful landscape shot. The very low horizon is magic here. I'm under the charm. Thanks for sharing. Wish you a nice evening/night, G.

As Georges stated, the low horizon really adds impact to the immense cloud of smoke. Very well documented moment in time.
