Description
Several of the gentlemen folk here have shown images of vintage automobiles that they have run
across. I thought I would show you a restoration that we finished about ten years ago.
The scans are from old photographs that are pre-digital, so the quality is not that good, sorry.
This is a 1933 International D-1 pickup. It was designed to be similar to the 1928 Willys truck.
It has the original Red Diamond 273 c.i. engine. All the wood was gone and we managed to
acquire the blueprints from the Willys truck to work from. It was a labor of love for nearly five
years and definitely involved a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, not to mention cash investment.
This model, from what we could research, was the first truck to be called a "pickup".
It sure turned heads when we drove down the road in it and won several local-area antique auto
awards. I swear I felt like Fred Flinstone when I tried to stop with those old mechanical brakes,
thinking surely my foot would drag across the pavement any moment before the thing finally
came to a stop!! I let Mike do most of the driving after that. :) We sold it several years later,
but it sure was fun while it lasted! Thanks for having a look.... Maria

an awesome example of motoring history. you and Mike done one hell of a job restoring it. I remember brakes of old vehicles. what was worse was the floor starter button, trying to hold the brake on a hill and give it gas and hold the clutch all at the same time

Incredible. This is one in a million (auto and photo). What a great compliment you gave the photo with the frames added. So many memories - thank you for sharing. Hugs!!!

These are just awesome Maria! But I have to say when I first looked at the images I thought they were little model cars. I am not sure why it looks that way, but it does to me. Even if they were, they are fantastic. I love how the background is out of focus and the truck is wonderfully lit and presented! My father in law was into redoing an old 1933 Plymouth. It was never finished. And for you, there are wonderful memories! Thank you for sharing!

What an oustanding truck... I presently own a 1960 Corvette which I purchased in 1983. I enjoy going to car shows and taking photos. I sure wish I could have seen this fine truck in person and taken a photo or two of her... What a classy looking truck? Do or your husband ever regret selling her? I'll not look forward to the fatefull day when my Vette and I part ways... Thanks ever so much for sharing.... Hugs Kenmo

The paint is really especial. The local TV repairman put a Buick in his 1950 or so Internatilanl when the old six died. For restoration which there was the Peddler driver for the trucking firm with his 1926 T roadser pickup with 1927 wire wheels. Now you are telling me it was not called a "pickup" but something else. I think I found "farm car" or something like that in the literature.
