Rumors and Innuendo: by Makaria
Before Psyche and Makaria completed their shopping trip, vendors began to talk about the news that murder had been done and that that grumpy old weaver was the murderer.
Psyche snorted and told people in no uncertain terms that such an idea was ridiculous. Clio was a fine upstanding citizen and wouldn't harm a flea.
As Psyche stomped off, Makaria leaned over to one of the more gossipy women and said. 'You know I just came back from Egypt with that weaver and saw that she bought a weapon."
The gasp of the woman vendor brought others who clustered around Makaria.
"A weapon? Was that the murder weapon?" Various voices questioned Makaria.
The young girl nodded. "She went into Alexandria among all those foreign terrorists and bought this horrible weapon. I just KNEW she planned to kill someone. To be honest, I think she wanted to kill me during our trip, but I always kept my distance."
"What about the antiquities dealer? I heard she was involved?" another voice questioned Makaria.
Shaking her head importantly Makaria responded. "I wouldn't be surprised. That old crone is another unnatural person. That odd cat... her strange travels and you won't believe what happened to her while..."
"MAKARIA!" Psyche's voice interrupted anything Makaria was going to say. Psyche's hand reached through the group around Makaria and dragged the girl away from her audience.
"Girl, sometimes you are more trouble than you are worth! If you want to keep your job and not end up on the street, you better keep your mouth shut and do exactly what I say at all times." Psyche hissed as they got away from everyone. "Lets get this stuff home now.'
With that Makaria was hurried out of the market towards home. She did glimpse her stowaway friend, but wasn't able to get away from Psyche to check to see how her new friend was doing.
