Description

Sometimes, in matters of conscience, taking a stand, no matter the cost, is the only prudent course of action. This image was started a year ago after seeing Star Wars Episode III, overall, a marginally compelling film at best. As always, though, the set design and artwork were top notch. Especially intriguing was the planet surface at the opening of the film. I tried approximating it on an infinite plane using an original pic, added volumetric cloud slabs, imported some models from scifi3d.theforce.net, and left it at that. Rummaging around in an old folder a few weeks ago, I found it and continued, creating the foreground debris and laser effects. Debris texture from art.eonworks.com, post work using PSP 8 and Universe Image Creator.

Wow. That's an incredible effect you've got there. As a welder / fabricator I know what a metal cut by torch looks like and this looks exactly like it. I like the depth of field effect alot. The fiery explosion from the distant ships guns looks quite convincing as well. I'm a little uncertain as to what your intention is with the planet surface. I've never seen Star Wars 3 so maybe that is the source of the inspiration on that. It looks to me like a manner of futuristic cityscape. I love the atmospheric glow on the horizon. A cool sci fi piece.

Gosh, this is wonderful! I love the DOF and the destruction of the peace sign as a metaphor. The surface of the planet is most intriguing and like the added touch of space debris. Excellent!
