Description
From a distance the jumping cholla looks like a fuzzy, soft plant with many short, fuzzy branches growing from the top. As you get closer you realize that the cuddly looking plant is completely covered with silvery spines.
If you are unlucky enough to touch the spines, you will find yourself painfully stuck to a spiny segment that seems to have "jumped" off the plant. Segments will also "jump" when stepped on and attach themselves to your leg or shoes.
As this photographer realized too late after stepping on some segments and ending up with shoes full of sharp needles.

Nice shot. I was just telling some friends about these Saturday. I too have been "jumped". Back when I was a kid living in Arizona. We just called it Jumping Cactus.

Isn't this also called Teddy Bear cactus? When I first saw it I told my hubby I had to have some for my garden. He carefully explained that I would rather eat broken glass then bring that stuff home. :-) Good photo!
