Description
NASA's F-15 Active on a test flight over the desert. Made this one quite awhile ago, but never got around to uploading. These days, the model flys in a NASA flight simulator. :-)

What's with the front wings? I don't remember the F-15 having anything like that. Nice render otherwise~~!! :) -chachi

Chachi -- thanks for the comment ... The F-15A (A = Active) is a specialized aircraft used to flight-test various advanced aviation control systems. The "front wings" are canards, which can pivot and tilt, causing disturbances to the airflow over the main wings. In practice, this simulates varying degrees of damage to the flight surfaces of the airplane, and so allows the evaluation of flight control computers without requiring actual damage to the aircraft. The company I work for develops neural-network-based flight control computers, which are tested / evaluated on the F-15A (to my knowledge, there is only one aircraft like this in existance). A few photos of the actual aircraft may be seen here ... http://www.nasa.gov/lb/centers/dryden/news/FactSheets/FS-048-DFRC.html

Yep! I remember this Eagle! If I'm not wrong it was first used to test this wings configuration to achieve very short take off's. Now, it's interesting to learn about these new experiments! BTW, a great work You do! Concerning it, I recall that IAF's F-15 safely landing without a wing! Regards, Stefano.
