Description
The Mogollon Rim was named for Don Juan Ignacio Flores Mogollon, an 18th-century Spanish governor of New Mexico. It boasts the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the country and endless panoramic views across mountainous horizons. The rim's sheer walls, forged of volcanic and sedimentary rock, rise from about 5,000 feet in elevation at the base to more than 7,000 feet at some points. These 2,000-foot-high cliffs are visible for miles.
