Description

I am one of the 1,100,000 million people estimated to have been 'displaced' by the storm - and no, I'm from MISSISSIPPI, not New Orleans. As we weren't near water, our house survived but the atrocious aftermath of no power, no water, no phone service and no gasoline for the generator drove us to evacuate with our four dogs. Once we were away from the coast and found out just how bad things were, we decided to relocate. My health is not good (multiple sclerosis) and the damage to the infrastructure (hospitals, etc.) of the area made going back a bad idea. Our friends are still on the Mississippi coast and trust me folks, while much progress has been made, life is still in total upheaval down there. The media seems to have forgotten about Mississippi and so many think things are just hunky dory down there - not true. My husband survived Camille in 1969 and said it took years, if not decades, for the area to recover from that storm. Katrina was far worse. information credits http://www.katrinatribute.info/ http://robertlindsay.blogspot.com/2006/08/katrina-death-toll-plummets-to-1723.html http://robertlindsay.blogspot.com/2006/05/katrina-death-toll-surges-to-1836.html Grass, headstones and tree from free stuff on this site.

I can't imagine the hardship. I went two weeks with out power after hurricane Hugo and I was lucky to have a generator to keep refrig and a couple lights going. That was measured in days. You folks problems are measure in months and now years. The media has moved on and others follow suit. We must not forget until everyone is having some sense of normalacy. You did good to open our eyes again.

I feel for you and the many others still displaced and for those who can never return to what was once their home. That was one horrid event. I wish for all to recover if that's possible!

Thank you skiwillgee and Ruby T. for your comments. One reason I created this image was to keep a promise I made to myself once I knew we wouldn't be going back. That promise was to make sure that Mississippi didn't get forgotten in all the hub-bub over New Orleans and the 'blame game' I knew would start once the dust began to settle over the mountains of debris. And there are still debris piles in Mississippi. There are people who still have no city water services in the state of Mississippi - which means no water in their trailors, when FEMA lets them put one up at all. Again, thank you for your kind words.

It's time to elect some officials ladies and gents. Let'em know that if the survivors of Katrinsa aren't mentioned we will stop listening. Let'em know that if they have been in office this long and have achieved so little they need to look for work where their ieffective style will not have such an impact on others. And finally let'em know that those who are no longer their problem because they were forced to relocate have relatives in Ole Miss and are registered to vote in the nationals. Most polititians listen to the voters best right before elections. WRITE TO YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS!!! BJ
