Description
Captured at the beautiful Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
Actually it's a cemetery with a 3.5-acre rose garden boasting a supposed 8,500 bushes and 1,000 varieties. I don't know about the number of bushes but I seriously question whether there were 1,000 varieties of roses. It sure didn't look like it. But this photo was taken on November 27, 2005, and many of the various species may have been dormant during that time of the year. I'm admittedly no expert on horticulture with this stuff.
Anyway, this is the first of over a hundred-plus select pictures I shot at the Memorial Park I've chosen to show periodically. I figured I'd jump on the rose bandwagon along with other photographers, including MrsLubner and Yesitis3, who post their prize rose captures on Renderosity. I do not intend to collage the photos six or nine at a time because I feel it detracts from the appreciation and impact of each one.
Some postwork on these, mostly in the area of clarity and contrast. The pics were taken around noon but since it was late in the year when the sun is relatively low in the sky there are some nice contrasting shadows in play here.
Thanks for dropping by and have a splendid day!

What a beautiful shot! The rose is formed so well. (I'm not sure I like postwork done on roses since the flower depends so much on naturally bred color and contrast and some post work can take the correct color out of it.) But since you are not trying to post by variety, I can truly appreciate the delicate and skillful post work on this. You got such wonderful detail and the green leaves are also very rich and dark - a good quality on many hybrid teas. I wish I could see this place - what a playground it must be for someone with a camera. Fantastic rose photo! :-)

MrsLubner: The only postwork involving color was a slight increase in the contrast. The colors themselves were not changed as far as shade or tint are concerned.

What a gorgeous rose...it really stands out here. The colors are great...I know how difficult it is taking shots of flowers in the sun, nice job.

I with you. I know nothing about roses. I do know not to grow a garden for food where some one had a rose garden. The roses take a lot of chemicals to grow them and to keep bugs off them. I heard of some one that did that and she got very sick on the food she ate. for the chemicals was in the food she grew. I like the looks of this rose
