Description

F-15E Strike Eagle over North Yorkshire, UK on 31/5/06. There's a lot of military aircraft action in the surrounding area (near the Three Peaks). I've seen a Chinook fly over insanely low from the south between the church and the hill (old motte and bailey castle) almost hitting the spire and buzz down the adjoining field. Also Apaches. Never seen one of these though, at least not that I had a chance to recognise it. The pilot flew low altitude manouvres round and round the vicinity for several hours which was also unusual.

The F-15E broke a rule. Eagles were to fly globally (with refuelling) and never need external tanks or pods. The first rule broken was the slipper tanks molded to teh fuselage. They had compartments for additional electronic gear as well as for fuel. It was night missions that pushed them over into carrying pods. Soon they were black. Finally they were ready for Great Britain. But the British never bought any. They had the more exotic vectored thrust Harrier and the swing wing Jaguar.

Tallpindo- cheers for the info. I didn't think the UK had any so figured maybe they were testing it. Impressive anyway...
