Description

One of the commonest deers in England since it was introduced here is the Muntjac, though shy and secretive it has survived well due to a natural ability to resist certain parasites that often afflict other deer, it is one of the oldest species of deer as can be seen from its two long canine teeth or tusks.. Muntjac bucks have long pedicles from which relatively small antlers grow. Normally a single backward curved antler up to 10 cm in length and terminating in a small hook is grown from each pedicle, although exceptionally a buck

hmm - interesting read and a very sharp shot! I always thought canine teeth were for carnivores, and as far as i know deer dont hunt or scavenge. That would be a weird sight! ;) Thanks for sharing!

Magnificent! The tusks are wonderful. I noticed the different placement of the antlers right off - like on pedastals. The squarer frame to the head shows a heavier skull bone and jaw - all indicators of a long-surviving species with a good constitution. Love this and thanks for putting it out there so I could inspect it. You did a wonderful job of making this real for me.

Your commentary is really fantastic as is the shot of the beautiful creature. Thank you for both, as so many of us have never seen anything like this and had no idea that there was a species of deer like this. HUGS!!!

I'm actually more curious about his eyes, particularly, the inside corner, where one assumes the tear ducts are. They are quite exaggerated and shaped most strangely.I am wondering why.I'm sure there's a reason for it.There always is...Sorry.Please,forgive my musings. That's just me...Interesting photo. Thanks for the info and the pic, Danny.Your uploads are always a learning experience.-M :^)
