Description
The purpose of the Finding the Center series is to come up with a fairly large print that would look good hanging in someone's office or living room. I have been rendering these at 16 x 20 at 300 dpi. This image is a full scale slice of the 16 x 20.
The center of the spiral has been a bit of a challenge to come up with. I can't see it in the UF working copy so I have had to zoom up and adjust and then zoom out and recompose. Then after rendering it still needs adjustment. That's why there are 8 versions so far. I should probably print an 8x10 chunk of this image to see how that looks :-)
I wanted to show a full scale slice to show the detail that the Photoshop filter creates and the detail of the fractals. For me, details are the reason for printing fractals. The details are lost in the smaller images.
What is your impression of this slice? Do you think the full image would make a marketable print?

it is awesome for me.. but not sure for people who have no preception of fractal art if they would give it the attention it deserves... thank you for sharing this with us..

I want my walls and ceiling painted with this .. it is mind boggling .. I would love to open my eyes and see this all around me .. even the floor. Or at the very least, a HUGE tapestry ..If I could afford it. I think there would be a market for this .. it is stunning, breathtaking ..

Hello, so this is part of a wider print...I like it as it stands and believe there would be a market in the right setting. I worked in the home improvement business many years and saw plenty of wallpapers, especially boarders, that went along this theme, though never in a fractal. With it's dark colors and blends, I could see it as a print (in this width), in a high wall area, such as an entry way. You should really print it, sometimes colors look great on the screen but print much darker. Amazing work, more please...

Keith, this is a great piece of work. You might even think about preserving the longishness(?) of the piece, because the sense of scale and detail that this slice brings is very dramatic. I don't know how one could hang a piece with these kind of dimensions (horizontally maybe?) but the elongated shape gives it a 'galactic' kind of scope.

I like it. I could see this as a tapestry rather than a print. It seems to be an image that needs to be on fabric. Just my opinion.

I do think the full size would be a fabulous print to hang, but I also agree with Timbuk2 that the elongated shape works wonderfully with this image. I would love to have this, as it is. There are a lot of places in my home where I would have liked to hang a picture like this, vertically. Thanks for sharing, Keith, the detail is awesome :)

Hi Keith. I think the detail and Photoshop work is very good. It's very difficult to predict what people are going to want in their living rooms, but I personally wouldn't have FTC6 on my wall (not as the main focus anyway, tucked away in an odd little place somewhere, maybe). It's the combination of the colours and the composition that would deter me. Colourwise, I'd prefer 'cleaner' ones (highlights less purple/blue, shadows less green, overall colours maybe a bit warmer). Composition-wise, you've got a darkish centre surrounded by a lighter circle (I'd prefer something more off-centre and assymetrical - I prefer the vertical slice composition you have here, for example). If you changed either of these two things, I would be more likely to hang it on my wall. I've no idea what they would do though. :-) Good luck with it.

You are in the good way Keith; I think as SimonKane. Think about the 'Nympheas'. The painter has not installed his work before to find a circular room ! Your panel is a real impressionist picture. I think it is in 2006 as important for us than for Claude MONET at his century ! FANTASTICe and MEMORABLE !

Interesting how different people feel, and that is normal of course! Personally, I'd LOVE to see this hanging in a great hall as a main focus of art! The individual images you showed didn't have the impact that this whole slice has, and what really strikes me about its beauty is the way it starts off at the top in the lighter, prettier colours, then graduates down to the darker more sombre colours! I'm certain there is a market out there for this kind of image, especially in the ultra-modernistic world, where people like to furnish and decorate very simplistically, but would put up a most elaborate picture as a showpiece! Yeahh lots more please!

Yes it would do well as a print. I would hang this on the wall . I had to laugh at first becaus it was never ending to say the very least, It keep going and going.lol... Remakable master peice. I love it. It sends me. You done excellnet. :)

I think some misunderstood this as an entire image rather than a slice of an image. Actually I think the size is nearly ideal, as well as the variety of color, texture and pattern from top to bottom. This would compliment something like your newest post very well, so long as the colors were complimentary, perhaps a triptych style of three framed prints, with two narrow ones on either side of the main image. Would be a striking trio for 'over the couch'. But a single narrow image like this might sell very well also for somewhere other than 'over the couch'. I think it's a stunning image. "Cosmos" came to my mind, as well.

It always amazes me when I do a large render like this. The detail is just breathtaking! 16x20 is not all that large for over the couch, so Maria's idea of a triptych sounds perfect to me. :)
