Description
Captured on the streets of my city in Southern California.
Just when I thought I had exhausted any potential Halloween photos in my vast library, I surprisingly came up with several candidates, including this bizarre product of nature. From several photos of this oddity, I chose this particular one because I felt a closeup shot of the tree would truly express the horrific danger of any physical interaction with the trunk.
I wasn't about to test the thorn points themselves but I did feel the sides and they were one hard suckers!
Now, does anyone out there know the name and/or origin of this tree? It may be most common where you live, but I had never seen or heard of it before.
Thanks for dropping by, and have a pleasant day!

Its new to me...ut I'm more into things other than trees because me brain only holds so much and then does a memory dump... :-) Great shot though.

I've seen this tree before in Arizona. It's a silk floss tree. They produce a beautiful orchid like flower in the fall. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the info, lil sizzler! Curious, silk floss seems like such an innocuous name for a tree like that.

So strange....these look like tiny shells of all shapes.
