Description

These sweet little Chickadee's were all over the place today; filling my trees, and going Bonkers over the suet I put out for them. They were totally oblivious to me standing there, going crazy with my camera. Anyway, I got a few pretty nice shots I'm kind of happy with. On this image, I ran it through Neat Image to remove some noise; that didn't take care of it all so I did a little smudging. I played some with levels and gave it a little ambience, using Virtual Photographer. I also removed a couple of distracting branches. It's a very cloudy day today, so the lighting wasn't on my side. I was happy everytime the flash went off for me. About the 'noise' in the image... I wonder how I got so much in it? I was shooting in raw format, iso 500 ... what could have done that? If anyone knows.. clue me in!! lol Thanks to all who took the time to stop here and see my picture .. and to those who have gotten this far in my rambling :) Hope you are having a nice weekend. Thanks again ... Shari

hi ISO in lots of cameras equals more noise..... but the chickadee is a fine looking fellow... we've got bird feeders and i've noticed the chickadees and a couple of other birds are stupid....they let you get too close to them...me thinks mom didn't teach them to be frightened of people.... neat image

Gotta say, turn down the ISO and use a brace or a tri-pod. I've known some people who could hold it pretty still, but better to get a one-leg and hold your breath... the bad light really works in favor of these birds, i love 'em.

I agree, the ISO 500 would be the main cause. It still looks pleasing after the treatment you have given it.

Excellent shot! I think it's not easy to capture such a cute little fellow, good post-work! May be you need a very long telephoto lens?

Beautiful shot of this precious chickadee and I love your postwork! Chickadees and Titmice are year-round residents here and the only birds that don't scatter when I walk out the door, I think they are very friendly and I've grown quite fond of having them around. I hope your having a wonderful weekend!

As someone who does a lot of wildlife shooting, especially birds, some friendly advice: Your composition and colors are nice, but I believe a less centered composition would have a better impact. The image is too soft for a great bird shot. I'm sure a lot of that is due to using the neat image program to reduce the noise. You don't provide the EXIF info so I can't be as helpful as I could if I had it. I know chickadees are quick little fellows, but if at all possible try to capture them in a pose where an eye is visible. In an almost head on shot like this one it's hard to see their beak and eyes; especially because of their black-capped heads. I try to always shoot them with the sun at my back or side and wait until I can see a reflection in their eye. I am going to post a chickadee shot tomorrow so you can see what I mean. My EXIF information will be provided and that may help some too. If you have some other shot of them that have good detail, but are noisy, you might want to try just removing the noise in the background and leave the noise in the bird and foreground branches. The noise isn't nearly as noticeable in them.... I hope some of this was helpful. Nice work! John

I see what you mean about the noise, but I like what you did with the picture. Sometimes the softness works in your favor, sets a mood, as it were. Good work, to my eye anyway. But then I know little or nothing about photography!

Yup....ISO 500 sounds like the villain to me as well. I get noise if i shoot in 200. #:o( So these are what you call chickadees huh? Such a chubby little fella he is...getting ready for winter i presume. We call em "talgoxe" if im not mistaking. One goal for me this winter is to photograph a few of them. #:o) Have a wonderful sunday Shari. #:o)
