Description

Good Morning All !
This pic is to illustrate a part of the upcoming Sabbat of Samhain. The Pagan Samhain is not, and never was, associated with evil or negativity. It has always been a time to reaffirm our belief in the oneness of all spirits, and in our firm resolution that physical death is not the final act of existence. Though death is very much a part of Samhain's symbolism, this Sabbat also celebrates the triumph of life over death.
Samhain (pronounced sow (as in female pig)-en) is the word for November in the Irish language. The same word was used for a month in the Celtic calendar, and in particular the first three nights of this month, the festival marking the ending of the summer season, and the end of the harvest. A modernized version of the festival continues today in some of the traditions of the Christian All Souls' Day and secular Halloween. The name is also used for one of the Sabbat feasts in the Wiccan wheel of the year.
Spiritually, Samhain is a time for reflection and meditation on death, and the honor of your ancestors and loved ones who have passed to another plane. It is an opportunity to be at one with your past, present and future. The Great Feast of the Dead is celebrated on Samhain Eve to offer tribute to those who lived before you, and those who will come after you.
Samhain predates the Roman feast of the Dead, Lemuria, and All Hallow's Eve - the eve of the Christian holiday to honor the saints, All Saint's Day. The secular holiday today is known as Halloween. All of these festivals, though called by different names, are celebration of the awe, communication with, and respect of the dead.
It is a time when the veil that separates us from the Other World is at its thinnest. It is a time to celebrate Past, Present and Future.

Love, Hugs and a Blessed Samhain To Everyone !
* Mina *

I am still trying to deal with the recent death of my beloved husband and soulmate. Samhain sounds quite fascinating and your image is soft, somehow healing, and spiritually beautiful. CC

Beautifully put Mina. Wonderful explanation. Your image has a sense of melancholy and the darkness punctuates the distance threw generations. I think this time, no matter whose tradition, is a happy time of reflecting and remembering all right. Wonderful artwork and writing.

A most excellent explanation, dear Mina. Memory Lane, for me, is a two-way street, with the past illuminating the present and providing a beacon for the future - the very essence of Samhain, of course. I love the image ... faint echoes emerging gradually from the warmth of remembrance. A great pairing, my friend. Mike

Excellent work Mina. My favorite quote from your explanation is, "The Great Feast of the Dead is celebrated on Samhain Eve to offer tribute to those who lived before you, and those who will come after you." I should hope that people will realize that the earth isn't here to be pillaged but to be preserved for those who come after. Doesn't appear that we're doing such a hot job. But this provides some small glimmer of hope. Excellent work Mina.

Thanks Mina! For this wonderful image and facts!! "It is a time when the veil that separates us from the Other World is at its thinnest." is the way I remember it, also a time to enjoy the harvest and remember those who are no longer with us. Great stuff!!!

Beautiful illustration of our connection to the past, the birds particularily seem to travel between here and there, backward and forward. Death is not and ending, but a beginning ... Blessings ..
