Description


The brain is comprised of billions of nerve cells that do not completely touch or connect rather are separated by spaces referred to as synaptic clefts or gaps. Tiny electrical impulses travel through each nerve, via a long cellular structure called an axon, until it reaches a pre-synaptic membrane located at the end of the nerve. This then signals the membrane to release substances called neurotransmitters into the cleft, which fills the gaps between one nerve and another, making a chemical connection between the two nerves. The impulse then transfers and or transcends, via these colorful explosions of neurotransmitters, through the synaptic gap, and on to the next nerve ending.
