Description

Have you ever played the "if" or "if only" game? Kids in care do it all the time if only i didn't cry when I was hungry if only I hadn't told the teacher mummy hurt me if only I hadn't told my friend Sally that uncle so and so was touching me if only I was good maybe then they wouldn't have taken me away from my home and my family. An adult may respond to logic and accept that they are not to blame when something beyond their control goes wrong but not kids they only have their feelings to go on It hurts to see their pain and guilt especially when it was their parents who messed up but with constant reassuring you do get through to most of them then the "if" game starts if i let myself like you am i being disloyal to mum if I let you into my heart will you send me away too These special kids need to hear that it is okay to be sad and love and miss their parents because they are their parents. Kids pay so dearly for the errors of adults and often on a daily basis so think before you act and make sure your kids know they are loved and are safe and that you will always be there for them. Let them hear these words from you don't just think they know it so you don't need to say it. Keep smiling because no matter how bad things get these kids eventually find reason to smile Chris :o)

Powerfull, I was in fostercare as a child...... you are right the "if" game was played by all of us. The hardest part was letting some one love us again after it started. Thank you for posting this.

Powerful image and words, Chris. :) You see it because you have contact with the kids who have been abused or are ones no one wants but thankfully its not all that prevalent... though the media would like to make us think so. Most kids grow up just being kids, brats.... every one of them. :D
