Description

Hi folks - here's another trueSpace/Vue composition. A long time ago I had a 12 inch vinyl record by Vangelis and Jon Anderson (from 'Yes) called Olias of Sunhillow. As well as being a good record it had some truly amazing cover art. My memories of that art were the inspiration for this picture. The figure was box-modelled in trueSpace and his cloak was made with a NURBS plane. The symbols on the cloak were made with trueSpace. The domed building on the lowest floating island, the roads and the rope suspension bridges are all models I made in truespace as is the largest floating island. The other buildings are separated components of the Tyrol Castle model available from Cornucopia3d.com and the waterfalls were originally made by Forester (thanks Pam). Everything else is Vue 5 Esprit terrains and vegetation etc. Rendered with GI using an extensively modified version of one of Thomas Kruhns excellent free atmospheres. I hope y'all like it - please leave a comment - good or bad (I can take it!) ATB WZRD

Thanks Svarg - silly me for not thinking of that. I'll go take a look now and see how my memories compare with the real thing!

I am, as ever, in awe of your talent, Stephen. Awestruck is a good discription of me at this moment. Aside from the incredibly complex and "I have no idea how you did that" background floating islands, I really admire the modeling of the wizard - the windblown effect on the cape and hair is so realistic i can feel it! Excellence!

Great image spawned from great music. Jon Anderson is one of my alltime favorite vocalists. He would be proud to have a copy of this. -Rob

Album cover art is a amazing thing that has really gotten lost with CD's. Some of my favorites were from the Molly Hatchet albums and who can forget the Cars "Candy O" album cover! Terrific image!
