Description

Another view of Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire, England. It really lends itself to black and white because of the orange stonework enhanced by the setting sun. The ruins behind are that of Leicester's Building. That is Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester who tried for years to get the hand of Elizabeth I but failed. He spent what would today be millions on buidling work and entertaining her for ten days in 1557 in a desperate hope that she'd marry him. She didn't and he was almost made bankrupt. Great contrast almost haunting and a bit of history to boot, the sky looks strange!

Very impressive image and thanks for sharing that piece of history. I always smile upon hearing the Earl of Leicester's name. He was send by Elizabeth to Holland with a few ships to help William of Orange against the Spanish. His ships-surgeon met a girl in Holland and stayed behind when the rest sailed back to England. This surgeon was one of my forefathers :-)
