Description

In 1781, the Pennsylvania soldiers under Captain Anthony Wayne mutinied. Mrs. Wick was ill at the time and Temperance Wick, known locally as Tempe (prounouced Tempee), was sent to get her brother-in-law, Dr. Leddel. Upon returning on her horse, several soldiers stopped her and asked her to dismount, telling Tempe that they needed her horse. Tempe played a trick on the soldiers and escaped with her horse. When she returned to the house, she hid the horse in a bedroom using a feather bed to muffle the sound of the horses hooves. Shortly thereafter, the soldiers came looking for the horse and searched the barn and in the woods surrounding the home, never thinking that the horse could be inside the house. There are many versions of this story. Since her home is only 20 minutes from my house, "the guys" decided this would be a great historical moment for this week! If you visit the house, the guides claim you can still see the hoofprints in the dust on the stairs...LOL! Staircase and house by me in Blender; Daz; RDNA For Cristi - thanks for all the tutorial help with Blender! Thanks in advance for all your comments and laughs! have a super week and see you next Tuesday!!!

What a shrewd little mouse! Although I wonder if they were able to get the horse smell out of the feather bed after that;-) I love he POV and the lighting here, as well as the story!

Not what a remarkable story and the POV here on your lovely stairs is awesome Wendy...an absolutely marvellous scene - and one not easily executed by either the horse and Mrs. Wick; nor the artist! BRAVO!!!!

I love the local myths of history! Those stories that only the locals know! They make going to the known sites more interesting. Stop by any diner near one and you'll always find the real good places to go. Thanks BJ

Good that i am not the only idiot who never has heard this story. But it is a nice one - something to learn from. Especially the part that we should wear feather beds under our hooves. Thanks for this one Wendy, is really helful... out for buying two feather beds. Oh, of course the image is excellent too - no question!

What a delightful tale Wendy. It's amazing much we learn from sharing 'tales' of history from different areas. I would love to hear more!!!!!
