Description

"There is a logic of colors, and it is with this alone, and not with the logic of the brain, that the painter should conform." - Paul Cezanne "Color! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams." - Paul Gauguin "The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color. Our entire being is nourished by it. This mystic quality of color should likewise find expression in a work of art." - Hans Hofmann "Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another purposively, to cause vibrations in the soul." - Wassily Kandinsky "Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment." - Claude Monet "Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this? No." - Pablo Picasso I'm off to visit friends in California for a few days, so no new posts for a while. Thanks to all who have taken the time to view my work & comment on it recently - I don't acknowledge it often, but I do very much appreciate it...

Wonderfully soothing B6 mandala. Such intricate shapes/colors/textures/light. Strange though, ...from the title I would expect the full spectrum of colors but I see very little green or yellow. Intentional? I also have to mildly dissagree with Hofmann. We don't experience the whole world through color visual. Shape, line, form light&dark and texture are as important visually, which is why B&W photography is such a powerful medium. Still, if those elements are the stew that sustains us, colors are the spices that make it enjoyable to eat. Enjoy your trip!

Kort - I guess you didn't read my response to your question on my last post - nothing in the art I create is intentional. As for Hofmann's observation, I think it's a matter of individual experience - for him (& for me to a large extent), color is a basic & dominant element of visual experience. I can enjoy the artistry in B&W photography, but it doesn't quite have the intensity or impact of colored work (again for me - your experience & perception may be different - but I don't think there's any right or wrong here)...
