Description

This upload is to express my feelings about an incident that has left me feeling very helpless and empty. After having a very rough few weeks and a funeral on top of it, I was stunned to learn that a friend of mine was a victim of "Date Rape". I have heard of it often but never before been so close to knowing the people involved. So many people want to get rid of all the evidence and try to forget about it. Unfortunately, things like taking a shower are exactly what SHOULD NOT be done. The first thing to do is call for help, the police, a rape hotline or a close friend. Too many people keep it to themselves and go into hiding, never telling a soul. My friend did the right thing. She didn't hide behind the curtain in an attempt to wash away the awful feeling. She called the police as soon as she realized what had taken place. She is fine and her family has rallied around her. I don't know how long I'll leave this in my gallery but thank you for viewing and reading my thoughts. It means a lot to me that you become aware and spread the word. There are so many hotlines out there when we need them. Peace to you all, Jodie :0)

I echo Susan's thoughts. Some things still leave me speechless: How come society can keep people safe flying to the moon... My thoughts are with the family, you expressed yourself well in thought and in image.

Everything I have to say on this subject has already been said in the above comments. Fine photo to reflect the seriousness of the text.

Castration... nothing to do with prison or anything - just castration. It's like theives in islamic law - cut off their hand and they wont steal again. thats what i think should happen anyway. Emotive image especially with what you wrote. My thoughts are with you and your friend, i hope she has the strength to live through these rough times...

Powerful symbolism in that image, yet it still retains a sense of beauty and delicacy. In retrospect, it seems a particulary appropriate response.

Sorry to hear this bad news. This picture captures the tragedy perfectly, and demonstrates the way our artwork can confront people with the hard truths they otherwise often shy away from even thinking about.

The "man" who did this is sick... His mind is a can of worms, dysfunctional. You can hate him or pity him, either way he is doomed to a life of wrong choices and will probably never know what true peace and happiness is.. No matter what his life in the future brings.. he can never erase what he did. My purpose for saying this is not to elicit sympathy for this creep but to let his victim know that each day he must wake up inside the Hell of his own mind...

this is the kind of problem that won't go away by ignoring it. your friend's bravery may help to save many others. and the cumulative effect will be to change the behavior of all men toward women. you may be prized but you are not a prize. an important image i'm sorry i didn't see until now.
