Description

"A photograph has always been a lie. We can not freeze time, we are not 2 dimensional, we are not the size of an 8 x 10 glossy, we are not composed in geometric paterns, but we are real. Photos have power because of this illusion. Using the power and exploring it as communication of the collective sub-conscience can be fun too." ~ Misha Gordin

Not too long ago pushinfaders (Bruce) posted a THREAD in the Photography Forum with a link to a Photoshop tutorial that enables you to make photos look like shots of scale models. You can find that tutorial HERE. I found it to be a lot of fun and here are 3 of my attempts at it. The top image is an aerial view of West Palm Beach, FL, and the two below it are various vies of New Haven, CT. If you are intereseted, you can see the original images by visiting the forum thread. -----

That is cool! And so simple! I probably would have chosen a different technique to arrive at the same results - but the one in the tutorial makes it even easier. Great the examples you chose, too.

Very interesting. This is a style of photography I integrated into an architectural brochure I did for an architect client of mine for that same reason. The photo's were accompanied by the illustrations of which I also rendered for the client. It made for a very surreal look and feel not to mention appeal to that industry and trade. It's amazing how the technique creates such a believable illusion. Nice stuff. KP

Well done, Kort! I expect to see an N-scale (Z-scale?!) train roll by at any moment in these shots. (There's an idea for your next GIF animation, lol!)IMHO, the bottom image best achieves the effect of a simulated scale model (and I've built enough of those to know what they should look like!). Kudos!

On the first and third images, the illusion is perfect ! On the middle picture, the presence of thisfence (?) reduces somewhat the scale model impression. Excellent work, Kort, and thanks for the link ! :~)

Utterly superb! Those indeed look like scale models of urban centers. You have a penchant for dabbling with the arcane and esoteric. I must visit the thread and familiarize myself with the contents.
