Description

G'day. This is the last of my bird series. This is an Australian Native Bird called a Rainbow Lorikeet. It was photographed at Pound Bend Warrandyte, in Melbouren Australia. It is a juvenile (young one) that was unfortunately attacked by a Magpie (bird) and sustained a big peck/bite on one side. Ill try an upload a Magpie so you can see one soon. I took it to the local Rangers office and then onto a bird carer but it has since died (hence R.I.P.). Our Magpies are very vicious during nesting (spring) time and they also attack humans. They are amazing and swoop down from behind, swing sideways and peck your head or ear. I remember getting pecked at school a few times and during spring time people walk around waving their arms in the air (so no, Aussies are not weird) its just our birds!! My husband was pecked on the ear (hes now got a nice scar) whilst riding his bike on our first date (hence not to be forgotten)!! LOL But its sad for the Lorikeet but thats natures way, i guess!! Thanks Louise

oh poor little one...he was so pretty... Just hits my nerves tonight to read this story as our male hawkhead wasn't well tonight eihter, got chased by his female and was just hanging around and giving some really heartbreaking sounds...I already called the clinic, cause he had a bad infection in spring were we almost lost him... but than he recovered after a while (we took him out and left her inside so he had some peace) and hopefully he will stay well...nevertheless I will have him check up next week

I got a Lorikeet at home, and I feel sad after reading your story. These birds are so affectionate (well, I don't know for wild ones, but mine is tame and very sweet). Beautiful capture though. Nice work!
