Great pic...any a bit funny too...The textures look great also...a very colorful compo...About the lights : have you tried to back away from the character you want to highlight and then dolly up untill you are about hoovering above the target...then create a spotlight and give "from viewport angle" as location for the spotlight...Try to aim a bit more to the left or to the right otherwise if your spotlight shines exactly in a straight downward line you won't get very much shadow...So a bit more to a side... Like this : __Spotlight _ ____ ___ __ __ Target _ __ _Shadow Excellent image and great job !!!

Fun, brightly coloured cartoon image, and some great characters.

Cute Bug!! I'm glad you told me he would be okay, though, that bird looks pretty determined! Shadows - eek, my sore spot! I assume you've tried both deep shadows and raytraced? The only shadow control I see in Daz for items is "cast shadow". Hmm.. check and see if your little bug friend is set to cast shadows? Hope to see more of this little bug! (Well, actually, he looks rather big, but maybe that's just camera perspective, lol)

Very creative scene..Fantastic work.

Great and funny render Mike! The bug is so cute! About the shadow... I don't know... maybe is like GVDV says. Or maybe (but i'm not really sure) is cause my grass is a plane with displacement and the shadow lies on the ground and not over the extruded grass... Mike, you can try to see if u got the same effect with a green plane without displacement.

Kodewarrior, Judee3D and GVDV, Thanks so much for your shadow tips. I will need to try them all in several variations to see what the issue is, so it may be a why before I master this issue. I also think it may have something to do with distant vs spot lights. In the past I used spotlights a lot for the fine control of where the light the scene, etc. Always get good shadows with then when I trun them on too. I used distant lights in this scene, so that will be one more thing to check, as they may wash out the shadows more, espcially at high shadow softness, which I use for scenes lite by an entire sky. GVDV's excellent light positioning tip and reducing shadow sfotness may just be the trick needed! You people are absolutely the greatest when it comes to helping others improve their art, thanks to you all very much! . . . mcv

Well, it's a "Dog eat Dog" world out there, (in this case it's a bird eats bug world! LOL Nice to know that the cute guy gets away! I can't help you with the shadows Mike, I usually create them with postwork in PS! I turn off the shadows on most of the lights in my renders and add them after I composite everything! This is a gorgeous fun filled image with adorable characters! Love it, even without the shadows! LOL
