Description

Cumberland at Saturn On a 2 year mission to the Saturn system and its finial destination Titian the USS Cumberland passes the gas giant. All sensors are pointed and ready to record the massive amount of data from such a close encounter! The model was created in Bryce from scratch all concepts and designs by me. And for all you space odyssey fans yes, the ship is loosely based on the design for the USS Discovery. Thanks again for taking the time to view and comment on my work. Cheers, David PS: if you would like to see a larger version of this picture because the file size limits the amount of data you can upload please visit my website, (It

A terrific model! No wonder you are on my list of favourites. I wish I had your patience. Did you know that in Clarke's book "2001 - A Space Odyssey" the ship went to Saturn as in your picture - not Jupiter as in the film?

Nice work. They used Jupiter in the film because the techos couldn't create realistic enough looking rings for Saturn :-) I have a paperback called 'The Making of Kubrick's 2001' by Jerome Angel which has all the facts... Have you considered a more intricate texture for the underlying skin of the spacecraft to give more of an immense scale?

Wow ... amazing. The only thing missing from this scene is a large brooding black monolith !

I have not commented for a while on your work Dave; it is beyond comment now. Words can not express the feelings your stunning work creates. You never fail to deliver, be it here, the Moon, Mars or the rest of Sol System. Keep up the flawless and inspired work.
