Description
Thanks for viewing !
A hoverfly ( Myathropa florea ) which apparently has to do without an english common name. In Dutch this hover is called "doodshoofdzweefvlieg" which means "Skull Hoverfly". This is because the stripes on its thorax can look like a skull from certain angles :)
The wings on this one could have been a little sharper, hope you like it though :)
Have a wonderful day ! :)

Doodshoofdzweefvlieg?????? LMAO!!! Im sorry for laughing...but that looks like something i wrote while being pumped full with morphin after my accident earlier this year. Or whenever Eija puts her nose on the keyboard for attention, lol. Ah...now as i try to pronounce it however it makes alot more sense. #;o) Thank god your photo is worth a 1000 words....can ya imagine the novel if they were all as long as "doodshoofdzweefvlieg", lol. Oh god i gotta stop. Excellent macro as always Jeroen! Have a wonderful evening! #:o)

LOL @ Andreas :D I know, i know... its looong word lol "dood" means "dead" "hoofd" means "head" "zweef" means "(to) hover" "vlieg" means "fly" Just a little course in dutch lol :D

Myathropa...I would think that meant 'muscle-man',lol,but what do I know.I never actually studied latin. But at least it's shorter than (lemme copy) 'doodshoofdzweefvlieg',lol. Thanks for the lesson in Dutch nomenclature and once again,a brilliant macro,Jeroen.-M :^) PS I just realised,'muscle-man' would probably be myanthropa. My bad. ;^)
