Description

An abandoned B-58 Hustler bomber sitting near the edge of Rodger's dry lake bed at Edwards AFB, California. A rare cloudy day and distant joshua trees made for a great five-picture panorama. ----- For the aviation enthusiasts: This aircraft is serial number 55-0665 with "Snoopy" nose art. It was converted to a test aircraft in 1959 to help develop a new Hughes radar system that was to be used in the F-108 and YF-12. After the TB-58's portion of the development program was over, the aircraft was left in the desert on Edwards AFB and became a photographic test target. It was placed along side a concrete pad with different width lines painted on it to test aerial camera resolutions. See the Google Maps image.. The aircraft still has the elongated nose radome from it's test days installed. ----- Images taken with a Canon S3 IS, 1/1000, F5.0, 39mm (35mm equivalent) Matt

This image because of content will likely not get the views it deserves. I do appreciate aircraft and this is quite well done. I truly like the crop you used. This is a neat aircraft, having seen a few before. Thanks for the fine photo.

Holy cow this is good, what a combination, desert and bombers. It sure does look exotic and I agree with Tom, the crop is awesome. Wonderful work, two thumbs up from Newbieland!!!!!

it is a shame that such a fine jet is left to the elements and not in a museum. excellent capture and I like how the desert takes a good deal of the picture

I thought that shnoz seems a bit larger than usual. Excellent panoramic and capture of this old bird, but your history really makes this gallery entry a winner in my book. Thanks!
