Posh, I am a jeweler by trade, designing and making stuff. For a while I had the chance to work with fine gem grade opal and do many pieces. That was several years ago, before I got back into photography. Since then, I have found the elusive opal a difficult photo shoot. Sure, faceted gems are difficult with dead light when diffused to prevent metal refletions from jewelry settings..and bright if taken apart. Opal still presents a difficult photo..I do have my ways to do these lustrous gems of radiant and sometimes elusive color. You have done well with these! Congratulations on a fine pic of black opals. Likely, not many will appreciate the photo as it should be. I do appreciate it, totally. TomDart.

WoW! As Tom said very difficult to photograph opals and gems. I try just a normal opal I can not make a good quality shot yet...You did ! Well done! (hmmm I might give it another try today, your picture inspires me)

Opals are tough to photograph, and you have done so beautifully with these. They are among my favorite stones. If you like science and the planets...you will enjoy this member's gallery. Have a good day! ~kort http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?user_id=248284
