Description

Big Bend pic 3 In the center of Big Bend rising out of the desert to a height of 8000ft are the Chisos Mountains. This shot was taken from about 3500ft looking up at about a 45 degree angle and zoomed in all the way (12x zoom). You can just see the top of a large tree about 30 feet in front of me, and the ones at the top that look like small bushes are all even larger trees. Casa Grande is the second highest peak in the Chisos at about 7800ft. This shot is of a tiny section of it that really shows the beauty of the forest and rock structures up there. The name I suppose comes from the tall rock column that extends from the top, making up the upper left of the frame. The portion of it you see here only shows 1/2 to 1/3 of its height and about 1/4 of its width. Up here where you need a coat to stay warm, its hard to believe you are in the desert a few miles from the Mexican border.

The formations that nature brings us also brings ideas for our own art. I wonder if we would be as creative if we lived on flat land with no details.

There is some fine scenery down there. Wish we could've gotten there before. Perhaps someday . . . Excellent shot!
