Description

YOU REALLY NEED TO SEE THE LARGER VERSION TO TRULY APPRECIATE THIS PICTURE. Beyond the pale of the fire, a twig snapped loudly. Newman started. Rey'ch'el appeared out of the darkness, using a long walking stick to help her up the wash. At night, her paleness made her seem like some ghostly apparition. That he had allowed the White to scare him annoyed Newman. He was even more irritated with her for intruding upon his solitude. He retaliated by ignoring her. Rey'ch'el aproached the fire. She waited, her hand gripping her walking stick, and stood near the perimeter of the firelight, waiting for him to acknowledge her presence. For a while, Newman entertained himself with fantasies of the White having come to beg his forgiveness. Such thoughts were quickly dismissed for the silly indulgences they were. She had nothing for which to be forgiven and, even if she had, proud Rey'ch'el would never beg. He finally looked up, studying her. Begrudgingly, he nodded permission for her to come closer. Rey'ch'el moved to the edge of the dying fire and stood slowly shaking her head. She said nothing. ************************************************ Excerpt from novel manuscript, The B'ha'an: Book II: The Daughter of the West, by Jeremy Miller.
