Description
If I had known how hard I would be worked, I would have spent more time relishing my freedom on that last afternoon. I spent some time with Mags in the kitchen, then she shooed me outside and had me find Pol. Working with Pol was small boy; he looked about 6 or 7 years old. I finally met Jess. Pol gave Jess the rest of the afternoon off and the two of us spent time exploring the citadel. It turned out that Jess was the grandchild of Mags and Pol, but Jess knew little else of his history. The Citadel was the only home he knew.
Between our forays to various parts of the citadel, we made our way back to the kitchen where Mags plied us with cookies and milk. That evening we sat around the table in front of the fireplace to eat a hearty evening meal. It felt very much like home.
I felt sorry for Tompkins who apparently always ate by himself upstairs in his room. Mags didn
