Description
The PCC Trolley car is painted like they were in Philadelphia when I rode them to school. That line (The 23) no longer exists but was the longest one in the world at the time. The buildings are from an earlier piece that was lost when Bryce 6.0 crashed (which seems to be it's favorite thing to do!)
Modeled in Rhino, Rendered in Bryce 6.0 with IBL. Textures in Photoshop and Bryce. Some textures from "3D Total" collection.

"Great piece" doesn't say enough. Just the right amount of grunge!

Really superb and the buildings are among the best that I have seen - wonderful texture work too! The lighting and sky are perfect and my only minor crit would be to dirty up the vehicles a bit, they both look like they're fesh out of the showroom - But what do I know, maybe they are :) A wonderful piece - Bravo!

Thank you all! I agree about the vehicles needing some dirt. I had to wrap this up but I'll go back some time later and rework those.

RE: PCC car model availability... Usually in complex scenes like these I already have worked out on paper my composition and know what faces will be showing of my models. To save on poly count I usually only model the facing polys. However, I as I get better at modeling I would like to make some full detail models and make them available. The only thing about the PCC Trolley was the difficulity with the top front. The actual cars have a much smoother dome but for the life of me I couldn't get the shape so I just took my best shot. I'm a stickler for details especially when it comes to something historic or "real". There's nothing worse than purchasing an expensive model that looked good in screenshots only to find out it's really a jumble of boxes, cylinders, cones and spheres. My pockets aren't deep enough for 3D Studio Max so I get by with Rhino but I have a feeling modeling organic shapes shouldn't be this hard.. When I get better I will be offering up some models. My first big project will be continuing the WWII Destroyer Escort models for a series I am doing.

Very Nice work on this. Reminds me of my days as a youth hanging around the paper mill for extra little jobs for some cash!!!

Outstanding work of art here!!!!!! Love all about this piece and cant waite until I am able to bring my past to life so all can share the way we are in yours. Beyond Excellent work of art. Oh and where did you get those wonderful mats?
dwmccullough
As far as those mats... I use so many resources I couldn't tell you exactly what mat came from where but here's what most of my works materials come from. Many I make myself in Photoshop CS, Painter IX, and Illustrator CS. Some I make using some great freebie programs like "Wood Workshop". Google that and download the free version. Great for floors or paneling. Many of the textures in that particular piece I got from "3D Total" Texture collection disks 1 and 2 (if they were cheaper I'd have more) but I used photoshop to get the layering effect using several textures. I also used Bryce's "ABC" texturing method to get some of the "chipping plaster" effect. There's a tutorial for this at http://calyxa.best.vwh.net/~calyxa/pearl/materialtut/marbleabc.html

Remarkable composition. I love streetcars (as they are called in Toronto and New Orleans). I understand that at least one of Philadelphia's old lines (Route 15?) has been resurrected and is running refurbished PCCs.

Nice to have come across your gallery - some fine, and thoughtful, work here.
